V5 Car Loan FAQs
There are a number of questions we receive regarding Chicksands logbook loans,so for your convenience we have compiled a list of answers to the more frequently asked questions we receive on a daily basis.
How do Bedfordshire Logbook Loans work exactly?
The principal of borrowing against your car (or a V5 loan) in Bedfordshire is very straightforward... you use the V5 document of your car as security for a loan against it. Typically you can borrow up to 80% of the car’s value and have a range or repayment durations available. An added bonus of this type of loan is that Chicksands applicants can continue to drive their vehicles throughout the loan period, an once the loan is repaid in full the V5 document is returned. V5 loans are particularly popular with those who have less than favourable credit scores.
What ID and documents do I need?
Providing logbook lenders with proof of Bedfordshire residency, income, car ownership, and identity is vital when you enquire for a loan. It only takes a few minutes, and you can do all of this with a handful of documents. Your photo ID, logbook (or V5 document), current MOT, proof of insurance, a utility bill, and a bank statement or copies of payslips will suffice. Bear in mind that some lenders may ask for additional information for verification purposes, too.
Are V5 Logbook Loans a good idea?
Absolutely, especially if you have had a loan refused elsewhere due to a poor credit history/score. As your car is used as security you may find that Bedfordshire logbook lenders are more willing to lend money where other lenders might pass, which is why they are so popular throughout Chicksands. So long as you meet the loan criteria then you could be lending up to 80% of your car’s value very quickly indeed.
Can unemployed persons secure a Logbook Loan?
To be eligible for Chicksands loans against cars, you need to own a vehicle that’s registered in your name (or very nearly own it on finance). A perfect credit history and full employment status are not always a strict requirement, however, you must be able to provide proof that you will be able to make the repayments on your Bedfordshire loan, without delays. It’s part of a responsible lending culture amongst lenders.
Does credit score affect loan applications?
If you have a poor credit score then you might have already been refused a loan elsewhere. Though disheartening it shouldn’t put you off applying for Chicksands V5 loans, as using your car as security for the loan often means a more relaxed acceptance level. Your credit history will still be checked, but as long as you live in Bedfordshire and own the car outright (or with minimal finance left) then you have a good chance of being able to borrow against it’s value.
What if I can’t prove my income?
Those who are self employed or have little/poor credit history in Bedfordshire can benefit from the V5 loans; they simply need to prove that they are able to make the repayments. As part of responsible lending, it’s important for Chicksands V5 loan applicants to prove that they have the ability to make timely repayments so as to avoid losing possession of their car. Since different people have different situations, it is important to get in contact to discuss your particular needs.
Car maintenance - whose responsibility?
During the entire period of your loan, it is your responsibility to maintain the car. The lender does not and will not take possession of the car unless you default on your payments. As part of your agreement, you should ensure that your car is regularly serviced, that MOT checks are completed, and that you maintain proper insurance throughout the entire period of your loan. If any of these things do not occur for any reason, or if the value of your car decreases substantially due to damage or a mechanical failure, you should notify your lender.
Are Logbook Loans visible on a HPI check?
A HPI check should clearly show a loan present as a ’Bill of Sale Agreement’. A rule was introduced that requires all Bedfordshire lenders to register any active loans against a vehicle with companies such as HPI. If for any reason you find that there is an existing loan against your vehicle which was not visible on a HPI search then under the HPI guarantee you are entitled to a reimbursement of up to £30,000.
What periods of repayment are available?
In order to suit most repayment needs your loan can be repaid over 12,18 or even 36 months. As interest is charged monthly, there is no penalty for paying off your loan, so repaying your loan faster results in a reduction of the overall cost.
